I have a key, but it works
very poorly.
What should I do? |

Try to assess whether
the problem is likely to be with the locks or with your key. If the key
works well in one lock, but poorly in another, chances are the lock(s) need
service. But if the key works poorly in all the locks it should operate, you
may just need a restored key. Keys simply wear out over time. Also, each
subsequent generation of duplicate key loses a bit of fidelity,
especially if it was not made by a professional locksmith! A well-equipped
locksmith can generate a new key to the original manufacturer’s
specifications, even from a worn-out key that barely works at all. This is a
very common problem with many automobile keys, but can also happen with other
types of key as well. This costs more than a simple duplicate key, but can
save you hundreds of dollars if it helps you avoid service calls or
replacement locks! Bring the worn key to the locksmith shop; bring the item
it operates if at all possible. The results can be astonishing! |
