There are several ways to proceed. If it is a late-model vehicle, you may
have paid for free roadside assistance when you bought the car. Check for
decals on the windows with a toll-free number. In some cases, the local
dealer can release a spare key. Otherwise, you may need to hire a technician
who can open your vehicle. In some areas, only locksmiths provide this
service. In most areas, tow companies offer this service as well (often at a
very competitive rate!). In some areas, the police will also try to open you
car. When selecting a technician to open the vehicle, make sure they will
guarantee not to damage the vehicle!
*** NOTE: The police will not promise
this and will probably require you to sign a damage waiver. Watch out!!
Chances are the repair bill you will face after the kindly officer shreds the
electrical wiring in your door and disconnects all the lock controls will be
far higher than hiring a professional to begin with!! Personally, I’d break
a window before I let a police officer blindly ram tools around inside my
door.*** Before you contact us or
a locksmith
in your area make sure you know the exact year, make and model and your
exact location! Be prepared to tell the locksmith whether the keys are in
the passenger area or locked in the trunk. Expect to show your ID and the
vehicle registration to the technician. |
