I believe that an unauthorized person has keys to my
vehicle.
What
should I do? |
|
You
probably should have some or all of the locks on the vehicle
rekeyed.
In most cases, this requires quite a bit of disassembly on the vehicle, but
in some cases it is not as involved. On the whole, it is more important to
rekey the ignition than the door locks. (If they really want in, they’ll get
in!) On some late model cars with
transponders it is possible to
“lock out” absent keys from the ignition without any disassembly whatsoever!
The first thing to do is take note of the exact year, make and model of the
vehicle. Then contact us or a
locksmith in
your area for advice. Important note!! In some cases, your insurance
carrier will pay to have the vehicle rekeyed if they believe your car is in
imminent danger of being stolen. In the meantime, block the vehicle in with
another car, lock it in the garage, or simply park it in a location unknown
to the unauthorized key holder. |
