I have lost the last key to one or more padlocks.

What should I do?

If it is only one padlock and it is not locked to anything, you should probably discard it and buy a new padlock.  Unless the lock has sentimental value, the cost of fitting a key is prohibitive.  A new lock would be cheaper.  If the key fits several padlocks, then it may be worthwhile to have a locksmith fit a key, especially if one can be taken to the shop.  Be prepared to present ID.  If it is locked to an item that isn’t portable, you will probably need a service call.  Again, the locksmith will expect you to present ID, along with appropriate documentation demonstrating your entitlement to access the locked area.  When you call, have any available brand information from the lock ready, as well as the exact location where service is needed.
